Metis believes in empowering individuals to attain their true potential through education. In an ideal world, high quality education will be freely available and accessible to all individuals who are desirous of learning and picking up new skills. However, the reality is that education is frequently underutilized due to high cost of learning. Metis aims to solve this issue.
The high cost of learning arises from the cost of enrolling into courses to attain education and includes time cost through the time taken to learn and study. Cumulatively, these represents high opportunity cost for students who may have families to take care of, work commitments, or other life demands that require their time and money.
For students that do pursue education, there are also times when their choice of education may be in a field that is lower in demand, resulting in a misallocation of resources.
Metis aims to solve this by providing a direct incentive to students to pursue skills that are in greatest demand in the current economy. This incentive is a representation of the economic value to society, known as positive externalities, which are not benefits that are captured directly by the students themselves which causes a misallocation of resources.
Through Metis, students have a financial incentive to study and pick up skills that are in demand within society. Through their education in high demand skills, students can even earn while being education.
